Johns Profile

John Bergquist joined the Conservation Biology Institute in February 2002 bringing with him experience in aquatic sciences and GIS. He is experienced in the field classification of salmonid habitat, aquatic invertebrates, riparian area function, water quality, and channel morphology. He also has experience in watershed and estuary analysis using aerial photography and GIS. John has wide-ranging experience with GPS technology and its application as a tool in the natural sciences. John is a native Oregonian and has lived in various locations throughout the state. He is happiest exploring his favorite rivers and wilderness areas. Environmental issues and how the Christian community can become active participants in restoration and stewardship are important themes in his life.

John earned his B.S. in Fisheries Science and B.S. in Political Science with an emphasis on environmental issues from Oregon State University in 1999. He has worked with Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife and The USDA Forest Service, and the Confederated Tribes of Siletz Indians as an assistant Fisheries biologist and GIS Analyst. At the Tribe John worked on several projects ranging from multi-species habitat use in the Siletz River Estuary to habitat needs for juvenile pacific lamprey Lampetra Tridentata and distribution for pacific lamprey and western brook lamprey Lampetra richardsoni in the Alsea River Basin on the Central Oregon Coast.

Currently, John is involved in management and design of the Boreal Information Center and its integration into a new format based on the design of Data Basin.  When not involved in projects, John is busy keeping the network and systems running smooth in both the Corvallis and San Diego offices.  John lives in Corvallis Oregon with his wife Kristine, their little boy John August and their adorable little girl Natalie.
