Southern Sierra Nevada Fisher Assessment

The Pacific fisher (Martes pennanti) is a large member of the weasel family associated with dense, structurally complex, low- to mid-elevation forests in California and Oregon. Remaining populations are small, disconnected from one another, and threatened by habitat modification and fragmentation. In 2004, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service found that Pacific fishers were warranted protection under the Endangered Species Act, but that listing the species was precluded by higher priorities. Historic Agreement to Protect 240,000 acres at Tejon Ranch

CBI worked closely with Natural Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club, Planning and Conservation League, Audubon California, and Endangered Habitats League to negotiate the precedent-setting agreement with the Tejon Ranch Company to set aside up to 240,000 contiguous acres of spectacular and ecologically significant California wildlands.
