Scientific basis for roadless area conservation Jun 10, 2002: National Forest roadless areas contain irreplaceable reserves of wildlife and plant diversity, performing many valuable ecosystem services used by all Americans. Despite their importance, National Forest roadless areas are threatened by extensive road building and inappropriate management for resource extraction.
Importance of BLM Roadless Areas in the Western US Mar 10, 2001: 65 scientists urged Secretary of the Interior Bruce Babbitt to protect the ecological integrity of the roadless areas administered by the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) in a letter sent today. The group noted recent National Forest efforts to protect undeveloped areas, and urged Babbitt to take similar steps for BLM lands.
