Southern Sierra Nevada Fisher Assessment
-
The Pacific fisher (Martes pennanti) is a large member of the weasel family associated with dense, structurally complex, low- to mid-elevation forests in California and Oregon. Remaining populations are small, disconnected from one another, and threatened by habitat modification and fragmentation. In 2004, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service found that Pacific fishers were warranted protection under the Endangered Species Act, but that listing the species was precluded by higher priorities. Historic Agreement to Protect 240,000 acres at Tejon Ranch
-
CBI worked closely with Natural Resources Defense Council, Sierra Club, Planning and Conservation League, Audubon California, and Endangered Habitats League to negotiate the precedent-setting agreement with the Tejon Ranch Company to set aside up to 240,000 contiguous acres of spectacular and ecologically significant California wildlands. (May 2008)

A Population Monitoring Framework For Five Subspecies of Island Fox
-
Due to their limited geographic distribution and small population sizes, foxes on all six islands have been listed as Threatened by the State of California, and all subspecies except those on San Nicolas and San Clemente have been listed as Endangered by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service due to recent precipitous population declines and high risk of extinction. In response to a request from the Recovery Coordination Group of the Island Fox Integrated Recovery Team, the Conservation Biology Institute was commissioned to develop a monitoring framework for the foxes. Proposed Reserve Design for Tejon Ranch - A Threatened California Legacy
-
Given the size, integrity, and geographic context of Tejon Ranch, and the regional significance of its resources, virtually all of Tejon Ranch merits protection for future generations. We propose a wildland reserve design for the Ranch that captures the broad array of landscape functions and conservation values that it supports (May 2006)

Conservation Significance of Rancho Guejito
-
This document provides an introduction to the intersecting cultural and biological conservation values of Rancho Guejito—its cultural history, rare biological resources, its ecological functions within surrounding conserved areas, its significance to past, present, and future generations of Californians—and a plea for conservation of the irreplaceable values it supports, the loss of which cannot be mitigated elsewhere.
