Presenter: Gabriel Daldegan

Description: Earth observations play a key role in planning and monitoring for the achievement of a land degradation neutral world. Trends.Earth is an example of how tools can bring together the power of earth observations, cloud computing, and user inputs to democratize access to information for decision making. In this presentation we go over how countries are tracking land degradation, the datasets used, the indicators, and how a novel tool is supporting the assessments.

Bio: Originally from Minas Gerais, Brazil, Gabriel Daldegan is a former SCGIS Scholar, now working as a Land System Scientist in the Moore Center for Science at Conservation International. Gabriel holds a Ph.D. in Geography from the University of California, Santa Barbara, and has been working with geospatial data applied to conservation since 2004. He’s previously worked with The Nature Conservancy Brazil, International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) under the Bonn Challenge Barometer Project, and the National Center for Ecological Analysis and Synthesis (NCEAS).
