CBI and SCGIS Communication Committee sharing the latest scientific research and tool development to impact conservation outcomes.

In 2013, CBI began an outreach effort to share internal projects, research and tool training. The primary goal of these webinars was to share our high quality scientific products with the agencies, practitioners, policy makers and stakeholders who need these products to do their work.

CBI recognized a need in the conservation community more broadly to hear about current research, product releases, spatial tools and more that would further conservation efforts beyond our organization. In collaboration with our project partners and colleagues, we began hosting webinars that highlight the work being done in the broader conservation community.

In 2016, CBI staff members (Tosha Comendant and Rebecca Degagne) joined the board of Society for Conservation GIS (SCGIS) and recognized the incredible work being done by member organizations across 44 countries. In response, CBI staff – in partnership with the SCGIS Communications Committee – presented the first SCGIS webinars in the Spring of 2016. As interest in these webinars grew, CBI organized and hosted the SCGIS series in Spring of 2017, 2018 and 2019. The exceptional quality of these webinars continue to impress our webinar attendees and CBI staff. CBI plans to have a regular SCGIS webinar series each Spring and Fall, focusing on both the work being done by SCGIS members and topics of special interest, (e.g. remote sensing).

CBI has grown our webinar audience and topic scope over the years. We look forward to continuing to provide the highest quality scientific work being done at CBI and within the conservation community.
