This webinar is the second in a three part webinar series: Evaluating Decision Support: Tools, Resources, and More
In this ongoing webinar series, Holly Hartmann will discuss best practices for climate change decision-support evaluation. Climate change decision-support is defined by the National Research Council report (2009), Informing Decisions in a Changing Climate, as “organized efforts to produce, disseminate, and facilitate the use of data and information in order to improve the quality and efficacy of climate-related decisions.” In the first webinar, Holly will cover topics of communication effectiveness for decision-support tools and resources ranging from strategies to field-testing. In the second webinar, Holly will discuss design strategies and tactics for decision-support tools and resources that begins with understanding what decision-makers are trying to do, then facilitates the resource’s ease of use. In the third webinar, Holly will discuss factors supporting the longevity of decision-support tools and resources beyond its funded research project timeline, including technology sustainability, transferability, and interoperability.
Presented by Holly Hartmann the Director of Climate Science Applications for Carpe Diem West, a nonprofit dedicated to tackling the challenges posed by climate change in the American West. Holly is a leader in research related to the development of decision support tools for climate, water, and other resource management applications, especially linking research with the needs of decision makers and moving research into agency operations. Formerly the Director of the University of Arizona Arid Lands Information Center and a co-investigator in NOAA’s Southwest RISA team, CLIMAS, Holly joined the Pacific Northwest RISA team, CIRC, in 2015. She is currently working with CIRC’s fellow Climate Tools builders on assessing the user-friendliness and sustainability of CIRC’s sites and applications.
